A server is a computer that 'serves up' web pages. For example, when you type 'www.osheas.com' into your browser this sends a request to the server which holds O'Shea's web site. The server then serves up the appropriate page to the browser for display. All the pages, files, content, images, and other pieces of your web site are placed on a web server that is connected to the internet.
